Euro 2024 Group A Preview, Tips, And Predictions 

Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, and Hungary are drawn in Group A. It is a relatively competitive group, but some teams are expected to do better than others based on our review below;

• Germany: The Die Mannschaft are tipped as favourites to qualify from this group to the knockouts or possibly win the group. They boast generational talents such as Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Bayer Leverkusens Florian Wirtz, and others. The likes of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos provide the needed balance of experience and squad depth enough to conquer the group.

• Scotland: Scotland are the dark horse going into Euro 2024. The Tartan Army, led by indigenous manager and former Chelsea player Steve Clarke, were the giant killers in the qualification phase. They defied the odds to put 2008 champions and 2023 Nations League winners, Spain, to the sword. Despite an impressive run in qualifiers, It will be a big upset in the group should Scotland qualify for the knockout. In their three appearances in the tournament, they have not gone past the group stage. 

• Hungary: Euro 2024 will be Hungary’s sixth appearance in the tournament, with their best campaign being a third-place finish in the 1964 edition. The Marco Rossi-led side will be hoping to qualify for the competition’s knockout for the first time in 60 years. So, the odds are stacked against them! Hungary qualifying from this group will be a big upset. It is unlikely.

• Switzerland: Switzerland are favourites to finish as runners-up in Group B behind Germany. The Red Crosses boast top stars like Granit Xhaka of Bayer Leverkusen, 2023-24 Champions League Golden Glove winner Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund, and Manuel Akanji of Manchester City. The tournament will be their 7th appearance in the competition. The Murat Yakin-led side had their best outing in the 2020 campaign when they reached the last four of the tournament.

Euro 2024 Group B Preview and Prediction

European heavyweights Spain are in Group B of the competition alongside 2022 World Cup finalist and 2023 UEFA Nation League finalists Croatia, with defending champions Italy and Albania completing the group

• Spain: La Roja, led by Spanish football veteran Luis de la Fuente, are clear favourites to win this group and challenge for the ultimate crown. They parade one of the most talented squads in the tournament, featuring exciting young talents like Lamine Jamal of Barcelona, David Raya of Brentford, Rodri of Manchester City, Unai Simon, and several others. The European giants will be hoping to win their 4th continental crown, having won the tournament in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

• Croatia: Croatia are one of the teams to watch out for in the tournament. With veterans like Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic, Josko Gvardiol, and others, The Checkered Ones are expected to stage a challenge for their first European crown after finishing as runners-up in the 2018 World Cup, third in the 2022 edition, and as runners-up in 2023 UEFA Nations League. They are favourites to qualify from the Group alongside Spain.

• Italy: Italy are the defending champions. Under the tutelage of Scudetto-winning former Napoli manager Luciano Spalleti, the two-time Euro champions will be hoping to challenge for their third European crown. They boast a good blend of young and experienced players like Alessandro Bastoni,  Nico Barella, Gianluca Scamacca, Jorginho, Stefan El-Shaarawy, and others. They will likely be drawn into a stiff contest with Croatia for a second-place finish in the group.

• Albania: The Red and Blacks are the least likely to qualify from this group based on records. They have made it twice to the competition but have failed to qualify from the group stages. Seeded against the best teams in the competition, it’s a spoiled market. Their most likely finish in the group is the bottom slot.

Euro 2024 Group C Preview, Tips And Prediction

Apart from the Three Lions of England, this group is one of the fairest, with Denmark slightly favourites to join England in the next round 

• England: Gareth Southgate’s England charges are among the favourites to win the competition and are expected to ease through this group to the knockout. The 2020 finalists parade the most expensive squad in the tournament worth £1.09bn. With a mosaic of vintage football stars featuring Bayern Munich attacking sensation Harry Kane, Real Madrid’s top star Jude Bellingham, Arsenal playmaker Declan Rice, and a host of top talents, they will win this group. Meanwhile, the tournament will be their 12th appearance in Euros after the near-miss in 2020. They will hope to go further to end the wait for the trophy.

• Denmark: The Red and Whites are also favourites to qualify from this group, but it is not a clear-cut prediction. The 1992 champions will be making their 7the appearance in the tournament. Manchester United duo Christian Eriksen and Ramsus Hojlund, including Christian Christensen headlines, are the biggest names in the squad to watch out for.

• Serbia: Serbia is another strong side in this group, tipped to claw their charges for a place in the knockouts of competition. They finished runners-up twice in 1960 and 1968, which will be their 7th appearance in the tournament. Juventus forward star Dusan Vlahovic and his Saudi League-winning Al-Hilal forward Aleksander Mitrovic are expected to lead the charge for qualification to the next round. The race for the group’s runners-up spot will be between them and Denmark.

• Slovenia: Slovenia has the slimmest chances of qualifying from this group, with England and Denmark set to jar for the qualification, while Serbia will likely come third. With the quality of opponents seeded in the group, it is more likely to be another deadlock as in their last 2008 campaign when they crashed out in the group stages.

Euro 2024 Group D Preview, Tips And Prediction

France, the Netherlands, Austria, and Poland are in Group D. Poland will likely struggle in this group and could crash out with France and Netherlands favourites to qualify for the next round. Check our analysis and predictions below;

• Austria: Since their first appearance in the competition in 2008, Austria have not missed out on Euros. The 2024 qualifiers were no different. An impressive performance in the qualifiers secured an automatic slot in the group stage, but they were not lucky with the seedings. Head coach Ralf Rangnick will hope to count on luck and hard work to beat the odds for a slot in round 16. The team’s best finish was in the tournament’s last edition in 2020, when they qualified from their group but were knocked out in round 16.

• Poland: Poland qualified for the tournament through the playoffs after defeating Estonia and Wales. Not much of a threat in the group, but Robert Lewandowski can cause problems. 

• France: France are the strongest opponent in this group. The 2018 World Cup champions and two-time winners boast top-class players ready to make a mark in the competition. Team captain and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe will be hoping to lead the team to their first European trophy in 24 years. Les Bleus last clinched the trophy in 2000. Head coach Didier Deschamps, who has been on the reins for 12 years, is among the top managers tipped to win the competition based on his deep experience and the depth of their squad.

• The Netherlands: The Netherlands is another solid squad in this group tipped to join France in the next round. With top-class footballers like Virgil van Dijk, Xavi Simons, Matthijs de Ligt, Cody Gakpo, Wout Weghorst, and Jeremy Frimpong, the Flying Dutchmen are clear favourites to qualify for the next round. They have 11 appearances in the tournament, winning once in 1998.

Euro 2024 Group E Preview, Tips And Predictions 

Group F is a relatively easy seeding for Belgium. The other three teams will be locked in a tight race for qualification to the next round.

• Romania: Is Romania underrated in Group F? Edward Iordănescu’s side aren’t a potent threat but can spring surprises. With a relatively inexperienced squad compared to opponents, Edward Iordănescu will face an arduous task security knockout slot. Nevertheless, we predict them to finish second in the group.

• Ukraine: The Blue and Yellow qualified through the playoffs after seeing off Malta and North Macedonia. Chelsea star Mykhailo Murdryk and Arsenal wing-back Oleksander Zinchenko are the top two players in the squad to watch out for. It will be a difficult task for the team to scale through, but head coach Serhiy Rebrove will hope to beat the odds with scores of experienced players in the squad.

• Slovakia: The Falcons can be dark horses ready to pull upsets in this group, but they missed their manager, Francesco Calzona, temporarily to Napoli. Far from their impressive run in the qualifiers, it will not be easy for the team with Belgium and Ukraine in the race. It will be a race between them and Ukraine for a third-place finish in the group.

• Belgium: With a good squad depth comprising some of the finest legs in football, such as Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Jeremy Doku, Youri Telemans, Leandro Trossard, and others, The Red Devils are favourites to win this group. Domenico Tedesco has a bunch of superstars in the squad to rely on compared to his opponents in the group.

Euro 2024 Group F Preview, Tips And Prediction 

This group has the Czech Republic, Turkey,  Georgia and Portugal. It’s an easy one for Roberto Martinez’s Portugal, but it will be a three-way battle for the rest of the teams. Who is more likely to go through?

• Portugal: 2016 champions Portugal are favourites to win Group E. Balancing young and experienced talents in the squad, the star-studded Roberto Martinez-led side boasts enough squad depth to take on any opponent in the group and the tournament. Al-Nassr forward and global footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo will captain the team in what will likely be his last international outing with the Selecao in a major European tournament. Rafael Leao, Concalo Ramos, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Cancelo, and Diogo Dalot will be too good for every opponent in the group. It’s a maximum of 9 points in the group and an expressway to the knockouts.

• Georgia: Georgia are the only team making their debut in the tournament. The team’s most notable footballer is a Scudetto-winning midfielder with Napoli Khvicha Kvaratskeli. We predict that the team will not make the knockout due to the qualities of the seeded opponents in the group. Also, their lack of experience is a significant disadvantage.

• Turkey: Vincenzo Matella recorded rave reviews during the qualification process. They finished top of their group but are set to face a tough test qualifying from this seeding. Manchester United backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler will lead the charge as the team ready charges for a slot in the round of 16. With Georgia out of the picture, they will have to battle the Czech Republic for a second-place finish behind Portugal.

• Czech Republic: Czech sealed qualification to group stages of the competition after they finished 2nd in the qualifiers. In their 10 appearances, they have reached the competition’s final twice in 1976 and  1996, winning once in 1976. Despite a relatively stronger history in the competition, Ivan Hasêk’s charges will face stiff competition booking a slot in the next round, especially against Turkey. They will likely finish in third place.

Euro 2024 Round-16 Tips and Predictions

Based on our group stage predictions. Our predictions for round 16 are as follows;

• Spain vs Austria: This would be a rollercoaster clash pitting Luis de La Fuente’s star-studded side against Ralf Rangnick’s spirited Austrians. Boasting a far superior attacking prowess, La Roja will be expected to progress to the next round past Austria.

• Germany vs Denmark: Denmark will end their Euro 2024 journey facing Germany in round 16. The Red and Whites are no minnows on the European stage, but taking up the German firepower, backed by their home crowd, will be no mean task. Germany will win and progress to the next round.

• Portugal vs Hungary: The Hungarians will attempt to pull an upset against Portugal’s star-studded side with their quick and fast-paced game, but it is unlikely. With Cristiano Ronaldo and his minions of stars, victory is a certainty for Portugal in this fixture.

• Netherlands vs Romania: Romania’s possible quarter-final pairing with the Netherlands will be the end of the road for The Tricolors. The Netherlands boasts enough quality and depth to easily see off the Edward Iordănescu-led side and will win the game to reach the quarterfinal.

• Belgium vs Italy: This would be the most difficult round-16 match as the two star-studded sides lock horns for a place in the last 8. It would be a game of a narrow-margin win. Belgium haven’t been impressive in the big stages. So, Italy, galvanizing on their experience, would ace this fixture and qualify for the quarterfinal.

• France vs Turkey: Turkey are a strong side but will not survive depth of quality in the ranks of Les Bleus. Sure, they won’t give up without a fight, but it will be won by the stronger side – France. With an experienced manager in Didier Deschamps’ and the sheer numbers of elite-level footballers, the 2022 World Cup finalist will advance to the next round.

• England vs Ukraine: This would be a rematch of the qualifiers. An upset is not likely. We predict the Three Lions to win and progress to the next round.

• Switzerland vs Croatia: This will be another tight round-16 clash, but Croatia will edge out the Swiss with their experience and better gameplay.

Euro 2024 Quarterfinal Predictions

From our round 16 predictions, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy, France, England, and Croatia will race to the final 8 of the competition. Below are our quarterfinal pairings and predictions 

• Spain vs Germany: Germany have shown incredible character and transformation since Julian Nagelsmann became manager. They are strong favourites to win the competition. Spain are also another top side. While La Roja will dominate proceedings, it is easy to imagine them being vulnerable to Germany’s scissor-edged counterattacks and the roaring support of the home fans. We are predicting Germany to win this fixture and reach the last four.

• Portugal vs Netherlands: Cristiano Ronaldo would be locked in a tight affair with Virgil van Dijk’s Netherlands for a place in the last 4. The Dutch are a strong side, but the high-flying Roberto Martinez-led Portugal are more likely to prevail with a deeper squad depth than the opponents.

• Italy vs France: Didier Deschamps is more likely to get the better of the defending champions in this game. Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti will not give in easily, but it is unlikely that the Scudetto winner will get the better of Deschamps’ France, who reached the World Cup final back-to-back. It will still be a tricky tie, but France is more likely to triumph here.

• England Vs Croatia: Another rollercoaster quarter-final clash to watch out for England Vs Croatia. Croatia have made immense progress in international tournaments than England, but it will still be a tricky tie for Zlatko Dalić’s charges. England have had the upper hand in their last 10 meetings against the Croats, winning 6 and drawing 3. So, it is unlikely the star-studded Gareth Southgate-led side will slump in Germany. Based on our assessment, England are more likely to win this fixture and progress to the semifinals.

Euro 2024 Semi-Final Prediction 

Germany, Portugal, England, and France will reach the last four. Below are our predictions;

• Germany vs Portugal: This will be hard to predict. The two sides boast depth of quality players, blending young talents with experienced players. The outcome could boil down to subtle tactical tweaks and maneuvers, including instances of exceptional individual brilliance. Nevertheless, we give it to Germany. Roberto Martinez is not likely to get the better of Julian Nagelsmann, and the Die Mannschaft will not bow to capitulation before their home fans. So, the hosts will prevail. 

• England vs France: This is another rollercoaster tricky tie, but it is easy to predict France going through to the final. England have only drawn one of the last five matches against France; four have ended in a defeat, including the recent 2022 World Cup quarter-final loss in Qatar. Generally, Didier Deschamps regularly floors Gareth Southgate and won’t quip at this stage of the tournament

Host nation Germany is predicted to tackle France in the final of the tournament. Who will win? Check our prediction below;

• Germany Vs France: This final pairing would be a cracker, offering everything vintage football at its best. The outcome would be dependent on tactics as well as the depth of quality on each side. In the last five matches, the two teams have shared four wins, while one has ended in a draw. The two wins by Germany are consecutive, giving the Die Mannschaft a slightly bolder stand in the fixture. With their 12th-man factor – supporters on the stand – Julian Nagelsmann is more likely to get the better of Didier Deschamps in the final to win the competition.
