Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Liverpool

A second-half flurry of goals saw Wolves sink to a 3-2 defeat at Selhurst Park before the international break, and they could be set to let in a few more goals when the free-scoring Liverpool visit Molineux on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s side have scored nine goals in four games so far and utterly dominated Aston Villa last time out, while they could easily have scored more against Chelsea in their opener, too.

With at least three goals scored in two of their last three games and Wolves looking open at the back, Liverpool will be confident of causing serious damage to Wolves here. Such confidence isn’t misplaced when considering the firepower in their ranks, with Mohammed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota all jostling for the attacking positions. Salah, in particular, has scored in two of his last three games and has netted in three of his last four starts against Wolves, while he had a direct hand in 31 Premier League goals last term.

Wolves haven’t invested much in their squad over the summer, and then they had to make a managerial change a few days before the season commenced. Having lost Ruben Neves, Joan Moutinho, Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Matheus Nunes without much in terms of quality replacements, most pundits see them having to endure a long and hard season. With Liverpool scoring thrice in two of their last three matches, we expect them to keep the good form going and record a straightforward win on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Sheffield United

Life after Harry Kane has been more straightforward than expected for Tottenham, who have emerged as early title contenders in this season’s Premier League. Although only four games in, Ange Postocoglou’s men have made a strong start, winning 3 and drawing one of their assignments.

They opened with a 2-2 draw with Brentford before successive 2-0 wins against Manchester United and Bournemouth and an EFL Cup second-round exit to Fulham on penalties. But Spurs saved their best performance for just before the international break, crushing newly promoted Burnley 5-2 at Turf Moor with Heung-min Son bagging a hat-trick. This weekend should also represent a good opportunity for another three points as they prepare to host new boys, Sheffield United.

The visiting Blades have picked up just one point in three games, leaving them hovering above the relegation zone. Even that solitary point came against an Everton team who have also been struggling for inspiration, and it is hard to see Sheffield United causing Spurs too many problems. They have already failed to score twice this season – against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and League One Lincoln City in the EFL Cup – and have scored just four goals this term.

While there are still question marks around Tottenham’s defence, it seems to have tightened up a little under Postecoglou, and they can pick up an important win in north London. Tottenham have not been shy in front of goal this term, netting 11 goals in their four league matches, while Sheffield United shipped twice against shot-shy Everton last time out, which has to be cause for concern. That contributed to a goals-conceded tally of seven for Paul Heckingbottom’s men, who have looked out of their depth.

Son’s recent hat-trick suggests he could be back in form for Tottenham, while Richarlison also got on the scoresheet recently, and Maddison has made a bright start to life at the club. This means Tottenham could rack up the goals, and with the Blades having looked too blunt in their matches so far, we expect a straightforward win for the home side on Saturday.
