Introduction

Kylian Mbappe was on target two weeks ago when these two teams met in the first leg of this Champions League tie in Paris. Bradley Barcola broke free late on to score a fine goal that has really strengthened PSG’s position in this tie.

Imanol Alguacil’s team will harbor faint hopes of overturning the goal lead and advancing to the next round. They will have Mikel Oyarzabal and Kieran Tierney back after they both missed the first leg defeat.

About the game

Real Sociedad vs PSG

PSG’s captain Marquinhos looks set to miss out on this clash with a calf injury, and this may mean that Luis Enrique has to rejig his backline.

Despite the shortage of center-backs, PSG managed to restrict the Spaniards to zero shots on target in the first-leg clash. Enrique’s men were comfortable throughout and controlled the game for most parts.

They will be keen for a similar game on Tuesday, knowing that they have the likes of Mbappe, Barcola, and Ousmane Dembele up front to seize any spaces that will emerge if Sociedad attempts to force the issue and become more adventurous.

It is something PSG have done really well this season as they have scored a whopping 83 goals in the thirty-four competitive games this season. 35 goals have come in the last twelve games, out of which they have won 10 and drawn 2.

PSG sometimes rode their luck in a tough group that saw them drawn with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle. They needed a point in the last game against Dortmund to qualify and endured a nerve-wracking game before eventually clinching qualification. Enrique and his boys will be keen to avoid a repeat of such here.

Their opponents on Tuesday are not having a good time at the moment. Sociedad were knocked out of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday when they suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Real Mallorca. To make matters worse, their talisman, Oyarzabal, missed the crucial spot kick on his return from the injury that kept him out of the first leg.

The Copa del Rey loss means that Alguacil’s men have now won just one of their last 8 matches in all competitions. That wretched form makes for even worse reading when one realizes that Sociedad have lost four of their last five games.

Conclusion

Sociedad have had issues scoring goals this season. They have failed to score eleven times this season and they have only scored more than once in only one of their last eight games. With this in mind, Alguacil will know he has to commit more into attack to stand any chance of overturning the first-leg deficit. And that approach will play right into the hands of a free-scoring PSG team that will have 21-goal Kylian Mbappe upfront to gobble up any space left behind.
